Embedded Firmware Engineer
You will own firmware across the wearable stack, from bring-up through production. The work spans sensor fusion, display drivers, wireless protocols, power states, OTA updates, factory calibration, and the low-level glue between optics, compute, and the spatial runtime.
What you will build
- Develop and maintain firmware for sensors, displays, PMICs, radios, and companion connectivity.
- Define power budgets, sleep states, thermal throttling, and boot paths for all-day wearable use.
- Build factory test, calibration, diagnostics, and field recovery tooling.
- Partner with AR systems, optics, and mechanical teams to turn hardware constraints into stable product behavior.
What you bring
- 5+ years in embedded firmware, wearable electronics, mobile hardware, robotics, or consumer device bring-up.
- Strong C or Rust on ARM Cortex-M, RTOS, or bare-metal environments.
- Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, BLE, Wi-Fi, PMICs, IMUs, cameras, or display interfaces.
- Comfort with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and structured debug across hardware and software.
Nice to have
- Experience shipping battery-powered wearables, hearables, or compact camera products.
- Experience with Zephyr, FreeRTOS, Embedded Rust, or secure boot and OTA update pipelines.
- Familiarity with optical modules, eye tracking, or spatial sensor arrays.
San Francisco setup
This role is based in San Francisco with regular in-person lab, prototype, and team sessions. We work async-first between onsite blocks, with written specs, weekly product reviews, and focused hardware bring-up time in the Bay Area.
