Privacy Engineer
You will define how egly handles sensitive data from cameras, microphones, location, and spatial context. The role combines privacy-by-design architecture, on-device processing policy, user controls, compliance readiness, and the engineering patterns that keep advanced sensing feel safe and understandable.
What you will build
- Design data flows, retention policies, and on-device defaults for vision, audio, and spatial features.
- Build privacy controls, indicators, and explainability surfaces in partnership with design and product.
- Review system architecture for minimization, access control, encryption, and secure deletion.
- Prepare egly for US and UK regulatory expectations around wearable sensing and consumer trust.
What you bring
- 5+ years in privacy engineering, security engineering, platform trust, or privacy-sensitive product development.
- Experience designing privacy controls for mobile, wearable, camera, voice, or location-enabled products.
- Strong understanding of data minimization, consent models, threat modeling, and secure system design.
- Clear written communication for policies, architecture reviews, and cross-functional product decisions.
Nice to have
- Experience with GDPR, CCPA, UK GDPR, or emerging AI and biometric privacy requirements.
- Experience with on-device ML, differential privacy, secure enclaves, or encrypted sync.
- Familiarity with App Store, Play Store, or platform privacy review processes.
San Francisco setup
This role is based in San Francisco with regular in-person lab, prototype, and team sessions. We work async-first between onsite blocks, with written specs, weekly product reviews, and focused hardware bring-up time in the Bay Area.
Process
Intro call, portfolio or technical review, practical work session, founder conversation with Marvin Huelsmann, and offer. We keep the process direct and aim to finish within two weeks.
