Experience
Spatial Audio Engineer
You will build the audio systems that help egly feel present without blocking the world. The role spans spatial rendering, microphone arrays, voice interaction, latency, comfort, and the subtle sonic language that makes AR feel natural in real environments.
What you will build
- Develop spatial audio pipelines for notifications, navigation, voice UI, and ambient presence.
- Optimize capture and playback for open-ear acoustics, wind, movement, and noisy outdoor conditions.
- Partner with design and AR systems on multimodal interaction: voice, gesture, gaze, and audio feedback.
- Define measurement plans for latency, intelligibility, comfort, and battery-aware audio behavior.
What you bring
- 5+ years in spatial audio, audio DSP, voice products, AR/VR, mobile, or wearable audio systems.
- Strong C++, Rust, Swift, or similar with real-time audio processing experience.
- Experience with DSP, beamforming, echo cancellation, HRTF, or platform audio APIs.
- Ability to translate subjective listening tests into measurable product requirements.
Nice to have
- Experience with open-ear speakers, bone conduction, or compact transducer design constraints.
- Experience with Core Audio, AAudio, Oboe, Web Audio, or custom low-latency render graphs.
- Familiarity with on-device speech recognition, voice activity detection, or privacy-preserving audio.
San Francisco setup
This role is based in San Francisco with regular in-person lab, prototype, and team sessions. We work async-first between onsite blocks, with written specs, weekly product reviews, and focused hardware bring-up time in the Bay Area.
Process
Intro call, portfolio or technical review, practical work session, founder conversation with Marvin Huelsmann, and offer. We keep the process direct and aim to finish within two weeks.
